There are plenty of success stories out there and I can confidently tell you that making a used bookshop work is not impossible, even during tougher times. What you don’t often hear is a story from a failed dealer explaining his mistakes. I’ve made a few and I don’t want you to do the same. First of all I want you to know that I don’t consider my bookshop to be a complete failure, only a partial one.

The ReBoot will consist of a brand new look, daily news and hopefully continued support from the bookselling community. You guys are what made this site with your contributions and links – thanks. As a more tangible thank you I will be displaying, for free, 125x125px ad spots for any independent book dealers.
Looking for comments.. What are you expecting for the coming year and for those that have successfully gone through previous downturns do you have any advice for newer owners?
The net has been cast now lets see if any great comments get caught. As a little incentive I will post a prominent link on our sidebar for one or two of the more interesting commentators. (for a couple of weeks).
The Bookshop Blog will be opening a new section on the site and we need your help. We will be starting up a Bookstore Profile section in the hopes of giving you a little insight into your fellow bookshop owners, at the same time we hope that we can promote your shop a bit.
With a good working knowledge of Medieval Literature and fairly decent writing and analytical skills, we English majors were not really of use in the business world beyond writing advertising copy or technical manuals. No one recruited us.
Once again it is time to see if any of you are interested in contributing a post to our site. The last time we put out a little feeler like this the result was very positive. We received a lot of very interesting articles, from a Dream of Opening a Bookstore to a fantastic trip to the Pulpwood Queen’s Girlfriend Weekend.
Imagine having a bookstore with a 12,000-square-foot lot filled with
Acres of Books. Now imagine having to move those books.
Last weekend we had a booth at the Boston Antiquarian Book &
Ephemera Fair which was part of Boston Antiques weekend.
..It’s funny that a recent post here was about optimism, because no where is the typical
bookseller’s lack of optimism more evident than at a book fair…
