Shelf Awareness has a link to this sad story of 2 more fine independent bookstore closings–this time in Harvard Square, MA. Curious George bookshop opened in the 1995 with the approval of the author, Margret Rey. It will be closing because the landlord refused to grant the store another lease. Just another bunch of long time bookstores being run out of business by large corporations who aren’t doing all that well themselves.
I’ve never been to Curious George, but I bet it’s pretty much like Books of Wonder in NYC–a place of joy and personal attention by booksellers with titles not usually found in chain stores.
I can only hope they continue to stay in business.

My kid sister just got the baby two books from “this new Curious George bookstore in Cambridge” (she moved there last fall), so I guess things have worked out!
