Operating a used bookshop is a charming idea that many daydream about. Here”s your chance to fulfill that daydream, even if it’s only for a week or so. You can rent out an AirBnB in Scotland and as a perk, you can assist with managing their little used bookshop – what a splendid idea!
From The Open Book
“The first ever bookshop holiday/residency experience, Scotland’s National Book Town welcomes you to play-bookshop for a week or two. We’ll give you your very own bookshop, and apartment above, supported by a team of friendly volunteers and bookshop sellers to make your trip as lovely as possible,” The Open Book explains. “Set up by The Wigtown Festival Company, the bookshop residency’s aim is to celebrate bookshops, encourage education in running independent bookshops and welcome people around the world to Scotland’s National Book Town.”
A truly unique and wonderful experience. I was a bit worried that I would be tied to the shop and wouldn’t feel free to enjoy my holiday. Far from it! You are left to your own devices but people are dropping in to check on you from time to time. The locals are wonderfully friendly and thoughtful. A great place to have chats but also get away from it all. Seriously considering rebooking!
