I was aware of a couple of novels published after the authors’ death, but was surprised at the number of rather famous titles that fell into this category. I’m more familiar with crime fiction titles being finished by other authors–Lawrence Block completed a Cornell Woolrich manuscript, Nancy Pickard carried on a series when the original author passed away, and Max Allen Collins has finished a couple of Mickey Spillanes.
Even more surprising, is how long some of the books took to get published after death. Some unfinished novels stay that way. Edwin Drood by Dickens has no ending, correct? Nor does F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Last Tycoon, if I remember. Yet they were still published.
