  1. I can understand the authors wish completely. The problem is one of posterity, with unfinished works, other people are hired to fill in the gaps and finish the authors work. The editors also rewrite the authors words. The work becomes not the authors words but interpretations by others of the authors words. It creates a false impression of an authors work. The loss of ability to determine what you spoke is a terrible experience for an author and an authors family. In essence, the authors last word ceases being their own. Yes, it should be destroyed. If Nabokov had designated someone to finish his writing it would have been a different story.
